The Shapable Mind

The mind is a shapable thing. Notice how the brain resembles a meticulously modeled abstraction of clay. Our skulls encase its contents collecting knowledge through our senses. Our eyes interpret beauty and ugliness. Our tongues, ears, and flesh interpret these same opinions with their own unique interpretations. Our own personal senses reach a consensus which formulates our beings.

Unfortunately, our minds are taken advantage of at early ages by apparently matured minds otherwise known as adults. Some of their decisions however, have also been preconditioned for the better or worse. What's most striking is the repetitive choices that adults make in choosing the wrong decision over what is right. This idea contradicts their hypocritical rhetoric of doing what is right.

It Is Not Too Late
Part of the strategy in correcting oneself is by piloting your mind like an astronaut would away from a dangerous field of asteroids. Or, to be more realistic, away from icebergs.

Correcting your mind today involves extinguishing the power of the past. In pop culture, the 60's influenced the drug usage of the 70's which bled into the 80's. Fortunately, the Straight Edge Punk Rock movement recognized the dangers of drug. This movement influenced kids to abstain from drugs by holding punk rock concerts and uniting for a drug free future.

These so-called punks debunked the stereotype that most musicians were drug addicts. As a result, they became socially aware of their surroundings. They demanded truth and refused to accept the prejudices set forth through the ignorance of segregation. Perhaps the anarchic appearances of the Straight Edge movement worked against them. It should be understood however, that they didn't want to appear like those whom they distrusted the most.

The fact of the matter is, the Straight Edge movement proved that appearance doesn't obscure one's character. As primitive as Dahli Llama, Mahatma Ghandi, or Mother Teresa appeared, they're far more trustworthy than a manipulative politician in an expensive suit. The same idea applied to the Straight Edge movement who also abstained from caffeine and eating animals.

This is a prime example of thinking beyond what our minds are shaped to be. If you want a better future for the kids, act like their future. Enhance the growth of their individuality through encouragement. Allow them to speak.

Force Feeding
Do not shut your children up. Do not force feed them your religion. Do not force feed them your racism. Do not force feed them anything. Do nourish them with love, compassion, understanding, peace, knowledge and freedom.

Understand that science has debunked mythology and that monstrous demons do not exist. Thanks to good artists and the magic of Hollywood, we've been able to envision these silly creatures entertainingly. The devil doesn't make people do anything. Bad decisions do.

Books can be learned from but they aren't the conclusion which defines us as beings. Books are only part of the ingredients which define us as people. Books have walls. The spirit doesn't. So why imprison yourself? Learn from it. Learn from what your senses tell you. Learn from the warnings of your young. Decide for yourself. Listen to your conscience. Question everything until it is evident. Life is not a myth, it is real.

The harmless moralist doesn't believe everything that he or she is told. The knowledge is kept at arms length, observed and if beneficial for peace's sake, including as an ingredient of the spiritual potpourri.
